You are sitting in your math class. You start to realize, Hey, this is pretty interesting! For the first time, you are not waiting for the bell to ring, and not every word the teacher says is boring. Then you think, where can I show off my math skills and meet people who also like math? Or just do math outside of class? Well, the Math Team has got you covered!

“Math Team is a lot of fun, but it is kind of wild,” said Mr. Sanford Bogage, a math teacher who advises the team. “I think a lot of people come for social reasons, but we also do math.” The math team is a place to go if you want something interesting to do after school.

Let’s take a deep dive into some of the competing that the Math Team does. “For instance, for Mathcounts, if they do well, they go from the chapter meet to the state meet,” said Bogage. “We have kids almost every year who make it.” Isn’t that so cool how there is all that competition here at WMS?

Now, let’s talk about how being in the Math Team can help you meet other people in your community.

“I have met many new people,” said Anand Mani ’29.

“Being part of the Math Team has allowed me to meet students from other grades and schools who share similar interests,” said Krish Mehta ’30.

You also get to meet people through competitions that the Math Team is part of. “For the competitions, it is with a lot of other schools, and we all get to become friends and we meet the math teachers from the other schools because we have to work together,” said Bogage.

The Math Team is also quite an old club. “I have been advising the math team for about ten years,”said Bogage. Throughout the time the math team existed, it has accomplished a lot.

“I decided to advise the Math Team, and for the first year, we only had six or seven members,” Bogage said. “Now we have twenty to thirty pretty active members.” Look at all that growth that is happening with the Math Team! Now that you have learned all about the competing, and the getting together that Math Team does, don’t you want to join?
