English department releases 2018 summer reading titles

Although the English department has yet to release the official titles for the 2018/2019 academic year online, The Bradford has received exclusive early access to them (and permission to distribute) from the department head, Mr. John Finneron.

 

For rising freshmen:

CP and ACP: Dear Martin by Nic Stone

Honors: Bless Me, Ultima by Rudolfo Anaya

 

For rising sophomores:

CP: Dear Martin by Nic Stone 

ACP: Everything I Never Told You by Celeste Ng 

Honors: The Bean Trees by Barbara Kingsolver

 

For rising juniors:

CP: American Born Chinese by Gene Yang

ACP: The Other Wes Moore: One Name, Two Fates by Wes Moore

Honors: 1984 by George Orwell

 

For rising seniors enrolled in traditional English courses:

CP: Different Seasons by Stephen King

ACP: On Writing by Stephen King

Honors: The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri

 

For rising seniors enrolled in the alternative English classes:

Diverse American Voices: The Autobiography of Malcolm X as told to Alex Haley

World Literature: Nervous Conditions by Tsitsi Dangarembga

Beyond the Binary: The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood

Creative Writing: On Writing by Stephen King

 

In addition to these texts, all students will be expected to read one book of their choice.
